A person with intellectual disability has the same essential rights at work as everybody else. It is time to get employment law advice if you are:
- paid less than you should be
- paid cash in the hand and don’t get a payslip
- working for a trial period with no pay
- casual but work the same hours each week
- not receiving superannuation
- working long hours without any breaks
- given board and lodging for the work you do
- dismissed and it’s unfair
- dismissed because you made a complaint to the boss
The process for dealing with employment matters includes:
- establishing the chronology of relevant events and the dates on which they occurred
- establishing the legal name of your employer and whether your employer is a corporation
- establishing what your job is or was, your classification (e.g. casual, permanent), the essential requirements of your job, and your conditions of employment (e.g. applicable award, employment contract).
